Mesothelioma Cases on the Rise in Minnesota Taconite Mining Area

A University of Minnesota study, which began in 2008, has confirmed that the prevalence of mesothelioma in Minnesota taconite workers is abnormally high.

The Taconite Workers Health Study focused on approximately 46,000 people who worked in the taconite industry in Minnesota. The study found that 1,681 taconite workers developed some type of lung cancer, including 82 who developed mesothelioma. Final results of the study are expected in late 2012.

Researchers believe that the fibers produced during taconite processing are responsible for causing mesothelioma and other lung diseases. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it is important to contact an attorney as soon as possible.
